Internet facility to be launched on Shatabdi

LUDHIANA: Passengers on board the Shatabdi Express can now access high-speed internet services with Central Railway having begun providing high-speed connectivity in the train on a trial basis. If the response is found successful the facility will be extended to other railway zones in the country.

The service would definitely be an added benefit for passengers as most businessmen use the train for intercity travel. With the net they would be able to continue their work aboard the train. Passengers would also find it useful to send messages, especially in case of an emergency.

”It would definitely be a good idea and would be of great benefit to all Shatabdi passengers”, said Vardhman CEO VK Goyal. “It’s not only businessmen and industrialists who require the Internet but also other travellers. Passengers wouldn’t have to carry their laptops with them on the train if the web facility is available on board.”

Karan Rawat, an MCA student, said, “I have been a student in Delhi for the past three years and usually travel by the Shatabdi Express when visiting home. If an Internet facility is provided in the train, I can stay in touch with current happenings. It would also save my time as I could complete my assignments in the train. Passengers wouldn’t mind paying some extra charges for the facility”.

Dharmendra Kumar, senior railway commercial manager, Ferozepur division, said, “The authorities should first gauge the response before permanently providing internet services on the train. If found successful it would be extended to other trains.”
