A special tourist train to start from here on September 13 is Indian Railway Catering & Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC)’s first such venture from the State.
The 15-day train, being run during the Onam season, will take tourists to Kashmir and to Himachal Pradesh.
The 18-coach Onam special will depart from here on September 13, Manager, Tourism, IRCTC, Ratheesh Chandran R. says.
The train, starting from Thiruvananthapuram Central, will carry 808 tourists who have booked for the Kashmir and the Himachal tours of the IRCTC.
From Agra, those opting for the Kashmir special will move from Delhi on September 15 to Srinagar, Gulmarg, Sonmarg, and Amritsar. Those opting for the Himachal tour will move from Delhi on September 13 to Shimla, Kullu, Manali, and Amritsar. The tourist train will return to the capital on September 27.
The train will have four Air-Conditioned coaches and pantry. The packages have been divided into budget, standard, comfort, and deluxe. The response to the tours has been overwhelming and that over 500 tours have been booked, Mr. Ratheesh Chandran says.
The last date for booking the packages is September 10. The package to Himachal costs Rs.24,210 and the Kashmir package Rs.26,520. Food, travel, accommodation, and insurance are covered.
