Market police have arrested five pseudo travelling ticket examiners (TTE) who had duped several passengers in the guise of providing them confirmed tickets.
Police arrested Shyam Babu, Shyam Choudhury, Chandan Kumar, Sunil and Raju from Bihar. The gang members go to the Secunderabad railway station during busy hours and identify North Indian passengers, who are looking for TTE to get a seat in the sleeper or III AC coaches.
One of the gang members first approaches the victims and takes them to meet their fellow gang member, who would be posing as a TTE wearing a black blazer and white trousers.
The pseudo TTE then assures the passenger to meet their other gang members waiting outside the railway station to get a seat. Once the victim meets the gang member outside the station and hands over the money, he would be sent back with specific instructions to collect a reservation confirmation receipt from the ‘TTE’. “But by the time the victim returns to the platform, the TTE will not be there and the gang members disappear with money. In some cases, the gang members had even escaped with luggage of the passenger,” Market additional inspector K Sudhakar said.
