Railway plans uniformity in allotment of seats

The railway authorities have decided maintain uniformity in allotment of accommodation in different passenger reservation system (PRS) sites for boarding points.

If a passenger gives the option at the time of booking the ticket for boarding the train from a station, other than the journey originating station indicated on the ticket, he/she would be given access to the reservation quota of the journey originating station indicated on the ticket and not of the changed boarding point.

Suppose a person books ticket from Mughalsarai to Secundrabad and shows the boarding point as Allahabad, then he will get the reservation quota from Mughalsarai and not from Allahabad . However, earlier, he used to get the reservation quota from the boarding point of Allahabad.

Director, traffic commercial in the Railway Board SK Ahirwar has written letters to all chief commercial managers and zonal managers including North Central Railway. The number of letter is 99/TG-I/20/P/boarding facility.

At present, if a passenger intends to board the train from a station other than journey originating station indicated on the ticket, the same can be done in two ways. Firstly, at the time of booking itself, the passenger gives the option for boarding the train from his/her station, other than the journey originating station indicated on the ticket. Or after booking the ticket, the passenger gives in writing for changing his/her boarding point.

In case of giving the option at the time of booking itself, different practice is being followed by different reservation systems. In case of Delhi, Chennai and Kolkata PRS, the passenger gets access to the reservation quota of changed boarding point and not the reservation quota of journey originating station indicated on the ticket. However, in case of Mumbai PRS, the passengers get access to the reservation quota of journey originating station.

In case of giving the option for change of boarding point after booking of ticket, the passenger continues to get access to reservation quota of journey originating station indicted on the ticket and his status gets updated against that quota and not of the changed boarding point.

With a view to have uniformity of logic giving access to reservation quota of journey originating station or the changed boarding point, the matter has been examined and it has been decided that if a passenger gives the option at the time of booking the ticket itself for boarding the train from a station other than the journey originating station indicated on the ticket, the passenger will be given access to the reservation quota of the journey originating station indicated on the ticket and not of the changed boarding point.
