Three arrested with bogus sr citizen ID

Three women who purchased concessional railway tickets using bogus senior citizen identity cards were arrested by the Kurla government railway police (GRP) on Thursday.

The three accused—Kavita Jadhav (35), Meena Gaikwad (50) and Krishnabai Gaikwad (55)—are Solapur residents. “Around 8pm, the three queued up at a booking counter on platform 1 of Kurla station. They wanted to return to their hometown and showed their senior citizen IDs to the booking clerk. The clerk and his associate noticed something amiss,” said Shivaji Dhumal, senior inspector of Kurla GRP.

The cops were informed and the three were taken in for questioning. They confessed to having bought the IDs for Rs 400 each from an unidentified woman in Solapur. A police team will leave for Solapur to trace her.

The bogus IDs bear the stamps of the north Solapur tehsildar’s office in addition to their names, photographs and thumb prints.
