Introduced by the Indian Railways, South Eastern Central Railway, Bilaspur zone has got the first- of-its-kind a self-propelled accident relief van with detachable engines on either side of the train. Known as High Speed Self Propelled Accident Relief Train (SPART), the van was brought to Bilaspur last week from Chennai.
“Earlier engines needed to be attached every time there was an accident, which took more than half-an-hour of the crucial time. But now with engines attached permanently on both the sides, it would immediately leave for the accident spot,” said Bilaspur division Chief Public Relation officer (CPRO), R K Agrawal. “Worth Rs 5 crore, this high-speed three-coach SPART, was manufactured at Indian Coach Factory, Chennai. It has been designed by Research Design and Standard Organization (RDSO),” he said. Relief van’s first coach is a staff van, second a medical van and third one being a tool van.
