Kudumbasree volunteers clean up railway track

About 110 volunteers of Kudumbasree Mission cleaned up the railway track between Ernakulam Junction station and Pachalam railway gate on May Day.

They collected hundreds of covers of waste thrown out of trains.

The cleanliness drive was the joint initiative of the women’s self-help group and the Trivandrum Division of Southern Railway. Divisional Railway Manager Rajesh Agrawal and Kudumbasree’s district coordinator Tani Thomas also took part in the endeavour.

The cleaning up of the station is expected to be completed in about four weeks and the Kudumbasree will launch another clean up drive.

This includes the setting up of a garden on World Environment Day (June 5).

The Railway will now concentrate on creating awareness among passengers of the need to refrain from littering.
