Railway Protection Force busts diesel theft racket

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) unearthed a diesel theft racket from the railway consumer depot in the Navayard area of the city. Diesel meant for locomotives was being pilfered by a tanker crew that was arrested by the RPF.

According to RPF officials, they had received a tip of regarding the diesel theft and had kept a watch in the area around it. The diesel for the depot was being supplied by the Indian Oil Corporation ( IOC). The tankers for ferrying the diesel were provided by private contractors.

RPF police inspector Rakesh Pandey said that the tanker was stopped when it was returning after emptying diesel at the depot. It transpired that the tanker still had 504 litres of diesel in it. The diesel worth Rs 30,300 as well as the tanker was seized by RPF.

The driver of the tanker Balvant Sura and its cleaner Rajendrasinh Rathwa were arrested by the RPF. They were presented in the railway court. RPF had sought a remand for their interrogation, but it was turned down. Sources said that the duo claimed that they had committed the theft for the first time.
