Railways has planned for improved on-board cleanliness

In order to improve the profile of passenger amenities, railways has planned to implment On Board House Keeping Services (OBHS) in all Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto and other important long distance Mail/Express trains (including Garib Rath) for frequent cleaning of coach toilets, doorways, aisles and passenger compartments during the run of the trains.

The scheme has so far been implemented in around 300 trains. Other important trains as identified by zonal railways are also planned for provision of OBHS. Lucknow division, too, has identified some of the trains. Under OBHS, the cleaning staff will be present on-board. Passengers can call them to clean the coaches and toilets, if they are found dirty.

Identification of trains for provision of OBHS scheme, as per requirements, is an ongoing process. Cost of provision of OBHS may vary from train to train and depends upon the number and type of coaches, journey time/period etc. Railways is doing on Public Private Partnership (PPP) model.

  1. The problem is with ourselves. we have the habit of throwing waste all around us. to improve there should be two cleaners each per train.
