To get a feel of the festive ambience of the city of joy Kolkata during Durga Puja, the music, the breathtaking pandals and the feasting, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) on Thursday launched a special package tour.
This Puja special chartered coach tour package to Kolkata will leave Guwahati on October 19. The package includes confirmed train reservation in sleeper class, hotel accommodation, buses for local sightseeing and all meals during the tour of five nights and six days. Per person charges will be the tune of Rs 8149.

Regional manager of IRCTC Kaushik Banerjee informed that professional tour managers will escort the trips ensuring security of the tourists.

“Durga Puja is one of the biggest social events of India and is the main festival in West Bengal. People from the North East who are interested to experience the fervour of Durga Puja in Kolkata can avail this opportunity now at very affordable range,” said Banerjee.

During the festive season in Kolkata, the weather is pleasant adding more to the jovial mood. Though the festival of Durga puja is celebrated throughout Bengal, it is special in Kolkata. It is time for socializing with friends, family and relatives and people dressed in their best outfits visit the different pandals, eat mouthwatering food and enjoy the drumbeats. The locals also distribute sweets and exchange gifts with their loved ones. The pomp and gaiety never overshadow tradition that is maintained all through the days of celebration.

The IRCTC also launched three more attractive packages—Spiritual Odissa, a six nights and seven days package (starting November 22), Royal Rajasthan, a five nights and six days package (starting December 6) and Golden Triangle, a six nights and seven days package (December 29).

“Assam and the North East has immense tourism potential but unfortunately we have not been able to fully tap this potential,” said Banerjee adding that to attract more backpackers to the State it is important to instill a sense of security and improve the facilities for tourists.
